About Businet

Main Activities

Member organisations work together on many activities. Click on an activity below for more in-depth information.

Curriculum specific Working Groups

There is a wide range of curriculum groups working within the Businet network. The groups reflect the needs of the curricular needs of the member institutions. The groups include for example ICT, Marketing and International Trade, Tourism, Administrative Management, Finance, and Communications. Three other cross-curricular groups were established in addition to meet the needs of groups from within the member institutions, that is, International Relations Managers, Decision Makers Forum and Lifelong Learning.

The activities of these groups involve managing teacher and student exchanges, the conferment of Higher European Diplomas and Certificates, the organisation of intensive programmes bringing students from across Europe together, and the accessing of opportunities provided by European funding mechanisms.

Students studying in an approved programme who satisfy the assessment requirements of the specific certificate/diploma are award a Businet HEC/HED qualification.

Student exchange

Student mobility between member institutions is a common practice. The relationship between members ensures that mobility activities are enhanced. Businet assists in providing a framework for co-operation and relationships between partner institutions and is fundamental to the aims of the network to provide opportunities for students.

International work placements

A number of member institution organise collaborate in submitting applications for Leonardo mobility projects based on using fellow member institutions as "facilitators" outside of their home country. Members share examples of good practice in projects. Businet also offers certification of the placement period with the "Certificate of International Business Practice".

Staff exchange

The networking opportunities afforded by the organisation are ideal when looking for and setting up staff mobility assignments. Having an ongoing relationship with other organisations in the network facilitates this type of activity. Many of the Businet members use Businet partners when look at opportunities for teacher mobility under the Socrates Erasmus LLL Programme.

Thematic networks

Businet are currently acting as the coordinator of a Leonardo da Vinci thematic network project entitled Framework. The aim of the Framework project is to provide a complete structure to ensure quality in the work placement process. It takes an innovative to approach to an old problem, a problem that was highlighted by a number of member institutes. The project is the network's response to those issues raised by the members. 14 colleges are project members but the benefits of the project will be shared by all members. Further details of the project can be found at www.frameworkproject.com

Intensive programmes

A number of member organisations organise intensive programmes together with fellow Businet members. Thus providing added value to the programmes of study on offer in their organisation and consequently giving participants a competitive advantage.

Annual Conference

The Annual Conference is an essential networking opportunity for members. It is where many of the network activities take place and projects are conceived. Each Conference selects a theme to be explored through presentations by keynote speakers. This is complimented by the sharing of good practice in workshop sessions. The working groups meet to examine specific curriculum issues. The conference is held at the beginning of the academic year and is central to the planning processes of many of the member institutions.

The Businet conference is held in different countries each year. The conferences are held in hotels which offer an accommodation package, to enable the delegates to meet and to maximise the networking time available.

The next annual conference will be held in Palma (Spain) from 12 to 15 November 2008.
